A remarkable wooden sculpture depicting the mythological hero Hercules has emerged from an ancient refuse pit on the Spanish island of Ibiza, impressing archaeologists with its state of preservation. The discovery, made during excavations for a housing development in Ibiza town, represents an extraordinarily rare find that challenges conventional understanding of organic artifact survival in Mediterranean climates. The sculpture was recovered from what was originally a Roman grain silo that had been repurposed as a refuse pit, according to Heritage Daily.
