Outside the Battlefield, What Was Daily Life Like for Medieval Knights? (Video)
Medieval knights are often portrayed as warriors who spent all their time fighting, wooing noble ladies, participating in tournaments and battling their enemies. However, there was much more to their lives than that. Knights had various day-to-day responsibilities, including military service to their lord, hunting, training for war, managing court systems, and looking after their household.
They also had the right to mete out punishment or fines and were responsible for local law enforcement . One of the biggest challenges for knights was when the king turned up with his court, demanding food and lodging for his entourage. Knights had to prepare for this event by stocking up on supplies, which could be a burden. So what did medieval knights do when they weren’t fighting? Quite a lot actually.
