In June 2009, archaeologists made a shocking discovery in the seaside town of Weymouth in Dorset, England. While excavating in preparation for the anticipated Weymouth Relief Road, archaeologists discovered a mass grave within a disused Roman quarry containing the remains of 54 dismembered skeletons which have come to be known as the headless Viking’s of Dorset. Within the shallow grave, they also discovered 51 skulls left together in a pile left to one side of the pit.

The Antikythera computer was the culmination of advanced mathematics, astronomy, metallurgy and engineering. It incorporated the philosophy and science of Aristotle, the gears of Ktesibios, the mathematics and mechanics of Archimedes, and the astronomical ideas of Hipparchos. It’s almost out of a fairy tale, with the added caveat of having the dirty underbelly of global warming revealed yet again! A Yorkshire sunken village with Viking origins has re-emerged after water levels of the reservoir it was under sank alarmingly low after the most recent heatwave in the UK.
The sunken village of Baitings has been underwater since the 1950s when the reservoir was built. And that was the last time one could still cross the original Ripponden Old Bridge.

Fishing was an important part of life, and apparently death as well, in the Pleistocene on Indonesia's Alor Island, northwest of East Timor. The collection of fish hooks placed alongside the remains of a woman who lived there about 12,000 years ago are the oldest known fish hooks to be found as part of funerary goods in the world. They also show there were some similarities – and some argue connections - between people living in the oceanic region at that time.
