So often, ancient stories were passed orally from elders to children and never written down, hence, over time they became diluted and in the greater part completely evaporated, and lost forever. A 1,800 year old sarcophagus believed to have belonged to a young Roman man has been returned to the Israeli Antiquities Authority (IAA) after initially being hidden by builders. The sarcophagus is slightly damaged due to the rough treatment it received by the builders, but authorities say it is still one of a kind and quite impressive.

Three decades ago, in the Spring of 1986, archaeologists uncovered the extraordinary burial of three young individuals in a common grave. What they found presented an archaeological mystery – the first skeleton, a male, was buried with a hand over the ochre-stained pelvis of the second whose sex was more ambiguous. The third, male skeleton had been dumped into the grave, and was lying face down beside the others. Archaeologists and anthropologist have been theorizing about the reason for the unusual burial since its discovery.

The sarcophagus of a high priest of the ancient Egyptian god Amun Ra has been unearthed in Egypt. The well preserved sarcophagus, discovered by a team of archaeologists within the 3,400-year-old tomb of a Vizier of Eypgt, contains hieroglyphic inscriptions and depicts offerings to deities.
