History of the Holidays: Easter (Video)

Print

Easter is the holiest day on the Christian calendar, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. However, despite being a Christian holiday, the history of Easter has pagan and Jewish roots. The word "Easter" itself is believed to have been derived from the pagan festival of the goddess Eostre, celebrating the arrival of spring. Additionally, the timing of Easter is connected to the Jewish holiday of Passover, with some scholars maintaining that the Last Supper was a Passover meal. Today, Easter is a time of joy and celebration for Christians around the world, marked by special church services, family gatherings, and traditions like Easter eggs and, of course, the Easter bunny.
