So many interesting subjects on here, that I am happy to be a part of. I have a deep interst in Ancient Sites, stone circles, Iron and Bronze Age; the occult, myths and superstitions. This year I published my first book – a Past-Life story of life in Roman Britain that I have written into the form of a novel given as I had so much information come through from this memory of reincarnation. This is the place to find others with similar experiences.
The megalithic stone work was almost certainly done by a culture that preceded the Inca. You don't go from tightly fit enormous stones to rubble-mud construction and call it an "improvement" in technique. Absurd.
Glad they can finally rebuild it.. so much is lost.. so many libraries destroyed thru out history.. so many disasters in all the history of man kind. rebuilding starting over again and again.. will we ever know everything from our past? of course not.. If more of our scholars would take myth and legend as fact as is proven over and over again as fact.. maybe we would actually get some where.. why all the denial of local myth and legends ??? they are being proven more often as not as fact.. So my stance is.. get your heads out of your arses.
Just because it is beyond our current technology does not mean humans could have not done it. So many ancient sites must have been built using methods and tools that have been lost to time, for instance the pyramids in Egypt. Personally, I believe there is no limit to what man can accomplish. In only about a century, we have learned to fly, have been to our moon several times, and are headed for Mars.
Whatever we can dream, we can achieve, we only have to believe.
Humans did not build this place. I think it's great that these guys were able to piece this back together, but to continue to claim it was made by man is ridiculous. We can't hardly do this today with technology and equipment and yet somehow the ancients were capable of building this structure in the mountains.
I’m not convinced that the Indonesian archaeologists are so much afraid of losing their funding as of discoveries messing up their neat timeline of human evolution
Traditional archaeologists are always downplaying any finds that contradict their view of history. They call the archaeologists who find them crackpots etc. and find some mundane explanation for the find. I’m a firm believer in a civilization that came before us but I wish there was a way to date stone. Then the traditionalists could no longer deny the evidence
There really was a bishop Nicholas who became a saint Over the years many legends and myths were attached to him from earlier times and melded into one character. Odin Allfather was said to fly through the sky on his 8 legged horse Sleipnir. He was also said to drop gifts for the children through the smoke holes of the huts. Such legends became part of the story of San Nick
laus and were embroidered as the years went by.
Has a neoliberal bias poisoned our thinking on archaeological discoveries?
Government funding doesn't always mean that lies will be portrayed as fact. To some extent, this is true. There are always liberties taken with the truth, but that is more attributable to human weakness and cognitive bias rather than the source of funding.
Government funding of archaeology is EXTREMELY positive. Sometimes, it is the only way that the past gets preserved. Some of the worst dictators in history, like Mussolini, Saddam Hussein, and Ghaddafi, had a mostly positive impact on archaeology. Conversely, some of the worst preservers of history have been the current ruling regime, the market-orthodox neoliberals.
The neoliberals were the ones who opened the door to widescale looting and destruction of many ancient artifacts and temples throughout the Middle East through mass bombing campaigns and destabilization of local economies.
Just because a government funds archaeology doesn't mean that the research produced will be false. In fact, government sponsorship of archaeology, even by brutal dictatorships, has been mostly positive.
Ashley, I strongly encourage you to be less critical of the funding source and to focus more on the validity of the science behind the dating methods. As it stands, this article reads more like a gossip piece than your usual work (which is usually stellar and great to read).
An interesting article, although some typos could have been edited out before publication.
The Winchester Geese are celebrated on the 23rd of every month at the CrossBones graveyard site on Redcross Way near London Bridge , organised by the very interesting John Crow. It's free and takes an hour or so, you are free to participate as much as you like, but it is a good opportunity to reflect on the appaling conditions suffered by those women (and men) as well as your own personal spirituality.
What are 34 Indonesian scientists afraid of? Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but that seems to me like another glaring example of selfishness. Afraid that funding for their activities or pet projects will be transferred to Gunung Padang? They question the motives and methods, but not the data?
The radar soundings and drilling resulting in the 22KYA dating was done in 2015, and funding was supposedly granted and then withdrawn shortly afterward as a result of opposition by the groups mentioned in the article – what’s happened since then? Has opposition been so thoroughly employed as to halt all progress?
I am confused with item #8. Where exactly in Iowa were the giants found? The Worthington Advance newspaper was located in Minnesota, but there is a Worthington, IA. I doubt that it was ever big enough to support a newspaper.
Homer in Iliad book 2 line 635, says that the 12 ships of Odysseus were "miltoparii" which means having red painted "cheeks" (the lower part of the bow).

Just reading about this makes me feel so sad for that prince no matter what his age was...what a way to go.

You actually think the Inca built this in 1450 AD? Need to do some more research.

Is there any current news?
The Dorchester pot is just an Indian hooka that was bought in London, durant the Great Exhibition in 1851.
I explain it here :
