Chromosome Discovered in Humans Dates Back 338,000 years
Scientists from the University of Arizona discovered that chromosome Y in humans, which is the chromosome which determines the hereditary of the male sex, goes back 338,000 years. In other words, it goes back to a period when modern humans apparently did not exist!
The DNA sample used was from an African American who submitted his DNA to the National Geographic Project. Everyone was surprised to find something like this, Michael Hammer (Associate professor in the University of Arizona) said. According to Hammer the discovery adds a lineage that does not fit anywhere in the existing Y chromosome tree.
