Hi there everyone
I have always been fascinated by UK history and our interesting racial mix from succesive peoples arriving on these shores.
When I was much younger I read an old copy of 'The Oxford History of England - Roman Britain and the English Settlements' by Collingwood and Myres (published 1936) which in several places referred to the distribution of different facial features and body types in different parts of the UK, and how this might mirror settlement patterns even today.
This idea has stuck with me ever since and whenever I travel around the UK I try to amateurishly observe what might be the chararcteristics of people in that area.
Does anyone know of any studies that have been done?
I do remember a TV programme (and acompanying book) some years ago relating to facial types, but I seem to remember that it felt like an initial study, and didn't go deeply enough into the subject for me.
Many thanks
bod
I don't know of any studies, but the topic is very interesting! I would also be interested in finding out more. I might have to see if I can find that book somewhere!

Bod, I just googled around and found this site, you might find it interesting
http://www.peopleofthebritishisles.org/
Thanks ChrisD
I saw a programme a while ago that I think came out of this study (I also had a book but I've mislaid it!) but I didn't realise they had a website!
It dosen't look like it's been updated for a while. I'll contact them and see if I can get any more information.
Looking at the website makes me think that, with the new face-recognition software that is available now, it should be really easy to conduct a facial study - any academics out there interested enough?
Thanks for finding that ChrisD! Hopefully some more people will respond to this thread in time.
Take care
bod

Greetings Bod,
I have been shown a pattern but on a global scale. I travelled the World viewing changing characteristics to the World body and how life on each part expresses the characteristic of the World body parts. Most enlightening http://thenewperspective21.wix.com/anewworld

Hi Barry
Thanks for that! Not quite what I was looking for but very interesting article and perspectives!
