In 1953, 8,251 guests from 181 countries and territories participated in the coronation of Elizabeth II. With her passing, her oldest son, Charles, takes over as monarch and be formally proclaimed King Charles III on Saturday the 10th of September, ending the longest ever monarchical reign in British history. For the first time since 1952, the anthem will now be sung to the words of “God Save the King.” The King will be proclaimed at the Accession Council at 10 am on Saturday at St. James's Palace, and for the first time ever it will be a televised event.
