Yesterday I saw a news item that said an Egyptian minister visiting Spain, let slip that there were treasures behind the ‘door’, as if they had looked in.  Apparently nothing was supposed to be said until a news conference in April.  I was going to link the news page here but cannot find it now.

The 3 treasures in Chinese Medicine that the author refers to are known as; 1) JING- essence of life (resides in the kidneys), 2) QI- energy (resides in the spleen), 3) SHEN- mind/spirit (resides in the heart. The Jing mixes with the Qi (which in this case are the forms of energy that enter the body- air, food, water, sunlight), all of this is mixed and is transformed into the Shen- mind/spirit.

The body is seen as a functioning whole comprised of various systems. In the NEI JING SU WEN it is written that these systems are " inter-related, co-dependant and born of each other".

Not only phaloss / omphaos / lingam worshipped Ancient Bulgarians as a symbol of God light creating the man, but also they worshipped the female symbol of Mother womb symbolized by the many caves wombs in Bulgaria. Ancient Bulgarians first human beings on earth were very aware of the genesis of human being on earth and venerating phalos and womb is part of this creation story. less advanced than our own civilization does not mean they were not advanced. true we would not willingly trade our advances in one field for another but, to say such a thing is a false argument. societies advance over time and one innovation does not often lead to a much broader understanding of science as a whole. the civilizations of tomorrow will find many things we do today to be primitive and backwards we simply have not advanced enough to know it yet. that will not detract from our civilizations level of advancement in our time. the greeks and romans were advanced compared to others from their time it doesn't mean they knew more about everything than we do today.

That’s it? How about the trinity in the Old Pagan Prehistoric religion of Fertility, that is, the Maiden, Mother and Crone? Depictions of this trinity have been found all over Europe. The Greeks and Romans had many female trinities embedded in their culture, like the three Furies, the three Medusas and the three Fates. And what about the Celtic female trinity of the Goddess of War/Justice – Macha, Badb, Nemain? I feel that this article has left a lot out, and also that it is pretty inaccurate as the notion of the Divine Trinity is much older than the religions mentioned, going back to prehistoric times.

Within tarot cards, especially when used for divination, apart from the four suits, the cards are divided into Major Arcana and Minor Arcana. That being said, the usual knave, queen and king, were also representations of real figures within history, though it remains debatable who was who. Legend goes that the four Queens are also the four Marys - for example that the Queen of Hearts could have referred to Marie Antoinette and the Queen of Clubs to Mary Queen of Scots. More could have been said taking account of this angle.

There is a massive amount of confusion with this subject. The idea that God has certain characteristics is one notion but the concept is much more interesting than this. The idea is a common theme for most cultures but the truth has become lost for many. The origin is much older and can be read easily in history once you understand the concept.
The idea is that God is a universal being and everything is part of God. This universal body as a structure is almost impossible to comprehend but the energy system is a creative template for life. Smaller structures are now recognisable as Galaxies and these have evolved to a creative pattern and we identify different phases of a galaxies life now. These Galaxies are traditionally titled a heavenly realm of which the next structure was cosmologically identified. This is the realm of the Father known as a Celestial body surrounding Earth. This body is a smaller version of the universal body. The next structure identified globally is Earth, known commonly as Mother Earth, the terrestrial structure is also a smaller version of the universal body. I could start quoting all of the global names for these recognised bodies but I wish to keep it simple, the universal body of God, the Celestial body and the World body. The next structure to life is all of the life forms on Earth.
The biblical trinity expresses that God the universal being contains all of these smaller bodies, likewise all of these bodies are just parts of God.
Biblically each of these structures are well defined and they are also then divided into smaller units, broken down into different attributes and each has it's own angelic order.
This concept dates back thousands of years and is recorded in some of the early vedas through a concept known as Purusha, Kaala Purusha, Kala Purusa.

So you want to put the claim that an advanced society would be able to keep infant mortality low into question?

Let me argue it thus then. If we suddenly lost that ability, we would immediately move huge resources to resolving that problem, sacrificing modern amenities if need be. What mother would fail to give up TV, or air conditioning, if it meant saving their child's life (obviously there would be examples, but we're talking about the society overall)? Therefore, among the first uses any new technology will be put to then, if possible, is to reducing infant mortality rates (and mortality in general). An advanced society, given the same resources as an unadanced one, will always have a lower mortality rate.

Almost without variation, ancient civilizations had a greater access to resources than we do today (by virtue of non-renewables having been less spent - exceptions come from ancient societies which experienced ecological catastrophe), yet they had higher infant mortality rates, therefore they were less advanced.

    Gold dust != nano technology.

Indoor plumbing has been around for thousands of years. It's more like saying "If I can develop carbon nano tubes, then the society which I live in must also be able to create artificial diamonds." The fields are related.

You expect me to believe that a society which lacked a base-n number system, which lacked germ theory, which lacked any semblance of a periodic table of elements, which hadn't yet developed algebra (let alone calculus), and whose "chemistry" consisted of guess work developed nano technology? Utter nonsense. In order to develop nano technology, you need an advanced knowledge of chemistry (including a periodic table, and modern atomic theory) and calculus.

Many prominent clues have been overlooked by previous attempts to decode the Shugborough Inscription. To start with, you have to take into account where the two shepherd’s hands and arms are on the tomb. The kneeling shepherd’s thumb is going over the R in “Et In Arcadia Ego,” and the letters showing left of his thumb spells ET IN A or ETINA. If you read these letters backwards (because of the relief’s reverse imaging of Poussin’s Shepherds of Arcadia painting), it’s the name ANITE, which is the suffix for Cana-ANITE. As you will see, we will find two names for a Canaanite goddess of fertility named Tinate, and their god of death named Mot. The word EGO (that decodes to Mot) has to be decoded with the Shugborough Inscription of D-OUOSVAVV-M. Secondly, the first word of the Inscription is DUO, so you have to move the U back of DOU one letter to make the word DUO. Thirdly, the VV of D-OUOSVAVV-M is a W, double U, or considered two Us, so the Ws that you come across are double Us in the decoding, which means you have to go back 1 for each U in the alphabet for the letters TT; the clue was moving the U back 1 for the word DUO. Fourthly, the key numbers to run along the alphabet is 10 or 8 forwards or backwards because D-OUOSVAVV-M has 10 letters and OUOSVAV has 8 letters. Once you find DUO O ANITTE MOTT, you have to move one T in each TT on this decoded line back by 8 and 10 letter places, using the original letter of T in the count, to make DUO TO TANITE (&) MOT. To follow along with this one-webpage decoding, visit my website http://cosmicorderoftarot.com/ You will learn the various meanings of the word ARCADIA that give you many clues to the decoding, why the shepherds hold their staffs at different angles, and another reason why this goddess is called Tanite instead of Tanit, her Carthaginian name.

So, to the 64000 dollar question – what is the chemical nature of the body image, specifically the chromophore that is responsible for the colour, variously described as yellow, sepia, tan etc?

First, let’s be clear about what it’s not. It’s not any kind of artists’ pigment, at least known ones from the medieval era (see STURP Summary, 1981).

    http://www.shroud.com/78conclu.htm

Pigments would have tell-tale microchemical properties.

"Pigments" would include the iron oxide, Fe2O3, that Walter McCrone claimed to have seen under the microscope. But John Heller and Alan Adler found that the body image is bleached by diimide (N2H2). Diimide is fairly specific for reducing/hydrogenating organic compounds that have –C=C- double bonds. There is no way it could make iron oxide become invisible (even if reduced to elemental iron it would still be visible).

Nor is it any known soluble dye. If it were the liquid imprinting medium would penetrate the weave to the opposite side. But there’s scarcely any coloration worth speaking of the opposite side of the TS, aprt from blood (or "blood").

Reflectance spectroscopy, part of the STURP investigation, found virtually no differences between the TS body image and the scorched edges of the 1532 burn holes. That made the TS image "scorch-like", even if STURP studisly avoided that description (why???).

STURP, for reasons that are not entirely clear, considered the TS image to resemble an acid-induced discoloration rather than one produced by heat. But my own experiments with fairly concentrated sulphuric acid, reported on my sciencebuzz site, allowed to evaporate on linen to become even more concentrated, gave no support to that view, unless the acid-soaked linen was also heated, and even then the coloration was not striking.

    http://colinb-sciencebuzz.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/what-happens-if-you-spi...

Heat or strong acid, with or without heat, tend to produce colour in carbohydrates (sugars, starches, cellulose etc) by the same chemical mechanism, one that involves a series of chemical steps that involve chemical dehydration (loss of H and O atoms in a 2:1 ratio), followed or accompanied by oxidation. Thus we have STURP referring to the TS body image chromophore as being a conjugated carbonyl, presumably with the sequence -C=C-C(O)-C-. That’s a little puzzling, since the simplest conjugated carbonyl, acrolein, has no colour! One generally needs a longer sequence of alternating single and double bonds, with or without carbonyl groups to produce yellow colour in organic compounds.

So it was interesting to have STUP's lead chemist, Raymond N. Rogers, propose an entirely different explanation for the chromophore. He said it was a Maillard browning product, formed by reaction between reducing sugars and amino (-NH2) groups. But he didn’t stop there. He conjured up a pro-authenticity explanation for the presence of Maillard reaction products entirely different from that which would be recognized by bakers, brewers etc who are familiar with Maillard “browning reactions” , usually between proteins with amino acid side chains, notably lysine, and reducing sugars like glucose. Let’s not dwell on the details, except to say that Rogers invoked the presence of a starch coating, used he said as a processing aid in 1st century linen manufacture, spot the pro-authenticity bi, then supposed it would supply reducing sugar without saying precisely how (starch does not easily depolymerise unless ‘helped’ to do so with enzymes or strong acid), and then – a feat of imagination – proposed that putrefaction products of a decomposing body provided the amino groups (ammonia, putrescine, cadaverine). What was lacking was analytical data to support was has come to be known as the diffusion model. One can overlook the absence of convincing experimental data for a degraded starch coating, or the credibility of a diffusing gas being able to generate a sharp image, but the major deficiency is the absence of spectral or other evidence to identify the TS chromophore specifically as a Maillard reaction product (though hardly surprising given the reaction pathways are exceedingly complex, leading to a vast range of end products, some of them high MWt and difficult to characterize).

Am I boring you folks?Yes, almost certainly. So let’s move from what STURP proposed 35 years ago, with scanty evidence (relying on fibres pulled off the TS with sticky tape with picogram amounts of sample) and move to the present day. Since Stuart has asked, what is my view, based on some 4 years of model building, while never having so much as seen the real TS, only photographs?

Using two entirely different routes, I have arrived at the same answer as Rogers – Maillard reaction products – but generated by conventional kitchen and bakery chemistry - human-aided.

The amino groups AND the ready-made reducing sugars are both provided by the same ingredient – white wheaten flour. They are encouraged to reaction together in a so-called non-enzymic browning reaction produced by high temperatures, typically 175 to 200 degrees C in a heated oven. (Yes, another deficiency of the Rogers model is that it required Maillard reactions to go at ordinary 1st century Palestine rock tomb temperature, but even in his model system he used 60 degrees to generate yellow colour with ammonia and semi-degraded starch).

Here’s the drill for producing an imprint with most if not all the known properties of the TS image. One smears one’s subject with vegetable oil (or egg yolk etc). One sprinkles white flour onto the oil-coated parts of the subject. One shakes off the surplus flour, leaving sufficient behind that remains 'stuck'to the skin for what follows. One then brings the coated subject into contact with wet linen, applying manual pressure. Various geometries are available for doing that. Getting the geometry just so is important for the quality of the end result, but the details need not concern us now. The wet imprinted linen is then carefully folded and suspended in a hot oven, and observed closely until the optimum degree of yellowing or browning is observed.

One has the Stage 2 imprint, but it's probably far too prominent to be regarded as a model for the TS, at least the faded one we see today. There’s a remedy: one washes the imprinted linen with soap and water, rubbing vigorously to get the final Stage 3 attenuated image. Is that also a Maillard product, or is it an ancillary product which is not ON the linen fibres but chemically part of them? Answer: I haven’t a clue, and even if I had a well-equipped chemistry lab at my disposal, there’s no guarantee of getting a quick or conclusive answer, such is the complexity of Maillard browning reactions and associated caramelization of carbohydrates that can occur via pyrolysis without protein or other amino-group involvement, and with or without involvement of oxygen.

Here’s are some images of my own hand, as seen at Stage 3 after washing, first as the yellowish-brown negative imprint, 3D-rendered, and then as the corresponding positive image after tone-reversal in Image J.

    https://shroudofturinwithoutallthehype.files.wordpress.com/2016/01/yolk-...

(Egg yolk successfully substituted for veg oil, showing the technology is robust).

Takeway message? One can model a passable imitation of the TS image using flour, vegetable oil, wet linen, a hot oven and soap and water. Whether the real TS was produced by that very same technology is anyone’s guess, but at least it’s technology that is simple and fully within the means of medieval artisans, requiring no knowledge of chemistry, merely an application of baking knowhow. As said earlier: models in science are for using, not believing.
