Thanks for this. There's erosion and then there's catastrophic erosion. If - as many suggest - these tunnel systems were constructed for shelter from various cosmic events, then the 'eroded' openings are likely to be much younger than 1,000,000 years. As LaViolette etc surmise, a date closer to 30,000 bpe is more likely for these and similar constructuons around the globe.

I have studied this area extensively, because just to the north is a site called Cunningesholme, which translates to King Inge’s Islet. A Holme was a small inhabited island.
In the 11th century the shore was a mile or so further inland than today. This people who lived here often travelled far to places like Kiev, Greece, Rome, Scotland and Sweden.

Nevertheless, I wonder how did they come to compose the tales? Were the published tales syntheses of a number of collected tales? Or were they published in whole from a single source? If not, are the original collected tales still extant?
