Article says: the wall still remains but the map was Partially torn down. If so ordered there would have been nothing left of it. But i suspect a few pieces would be used for recycled constructions, but then why not many more ? like all of it. Rome was not so known for keeping old construction Unrestored. It was found where it was because, someone back then still cared, perhaps, its maker ? so pieces were hidden, ended up buried. Great survivors though :) there are more out there.

Jesus did not live anywhere near time of crusades. He did not battle anyone. He said when challenged, 'Give to caesar what is caesars, and to God what is God's'. Matthew 22:21.
Catholic church has always been crooked, denies Jesus' diety and has vastly murdered and imprisoned when people disagreed with, Their way.. Catholic is not in scripture. Nor is any way of catholic belief.
And Jesus Never ruled edessa, nor anyone. But, now ascended, he rules all !

"Paganism is considered a minor religion now..."

I find it fascinating that it is considered at all. Maybe it should be considered as the world's oldest form of religion, since it is so interwoven into the major religions that are around today.

Notice the writing on the ring looks nothing like modern Hebrew block writing.  The people we call the ancient “Hebrews,” consisted of a very diverse group of people, who engaged in all sorts of sea travel and commerce.  They spoke the same language and used the same alphabet as the Phoenicians.

The modern block script did not come into existence until the Middle Ages. But most of the Dead Sea scrolls have this block writing.  This makes the Dead Sea Scrolls suspect, looking like something possibly forged during the Crusades than written in the first century.

Then again, Anatoly Fomenko, the Russian historian and mathematician, puts the crucifixtion at 1053 AD, or 1000 years later, right at the time of the Crusdaes.  And if Ralph Ellis has it right and Jesus ruled Edessa, the Crusades first went to Edessa.  This would make sense if Jesus led them.  Or if they opposed him.  Who knows the actual situation.  Under Ellis’s theory, Jesus fought Rome for rule.  The crusaders went to Jerusalem on behalf of the church.

So if Fomenko has it right, and it seems very interesting and plausible to me, the crusades happened at the same time as the Jewish wars.

I think people should seriously consider that the Catholic Church deliberately lengthened history by 1000 years, during a time when all literate people worked for the Church.  They could have done it very easily, I think.

Fomenko has written many thousands of pages of scholarly research on the subject.  People should not discount him or his colleagues.

    Ralph,

There is a story from Roman times of some scrolls of prophesy that foretold the fate of the empire, that were said to have been "stored in a chamber beneath the temple of Jupiter".

This story has driven me nuts because I thought it was hinting at the existence of a possibly undiscovered chamber at Ba'albek. But in your comment you say "if you go under the temple platform". Are you describing some kind of subfloor chamber beneath the Jupiter temple, like that described in the story about the prophetic scrolls?

    @Alexandru:

Since Capitalism is a relatively new concept, blaming it for "all the crimes of history" seems rather spurious, to me.

Your assertion that Capitalism faked the moon landing and built weapons of mass destruction is once again making my point; both of those are/were government endeavors.

    Cheers!

Could be that's what he meant, but if so, those people were the progenitors of the field. Archaeology is a relatively new discipline; the explorers and "antiquarians" of the late eighteen and early nineteen hundreds are the forefathers of modern archaeology. Referring to them as "amateurs" seems a bit misleading as there were no concomitant professionals, and the professionals who came later were their direct descendants, methodologically speaking.

If there are no professionals, there are no amateurs.

Shame. Started reading this thinking it would be one of those articles connecting mythology to archaeology but found the giant bones story yet more compelling. Then, enter the part about closing down a gallery because its contents are "shocking", and then the government throws preservation out the window to melt down gold for profit, blahblah... How is it that one can spend considerable time researching a subject without the discerning eye for pseudoarchaeology, or perhaps the author knows it's BS but is more interested in having fun than making an academic contribution? Either way, I wasted my time. Wish the following references had been listed before the introductory paragraph:
“Supernatural in the Land of Count Dracula”
    “Paranormal”
    “Dictionary of Mysteries”

In referring to the rich amateurs - I think he means that years ago there were many 'explorers' and 'archaeologists' who found ancient things but didn't adhere to the developing science of how to investigate and dig up artifacts, and they often destroyed history. Nowadays that is not so true, of course if an amateur does do that now it can lead to fines, but much less likely now.

If this map was (ordered) taken down, I guess it's possible that they were reclaimed. Does anyone know if any pieces found so far were used as building material or other incorporated elements?

Thanks Jack. That’s a much better read. A different style enabling you to state & voice your opinions and beliefs.

A ‘Cult’ is a religious or social group that supposedly deviates from the more ‘novel’ beliefs. But defining what is ‘deviant’ is difficult and for the most part can be wrought with biased thoughts/beliefs making any clear definition problematic.

With in the English speaking world the word ‘cult’ can and is used as a SUBLIME derogatory word and being a subjective word is used to ATTACK others who have differing doctrines or practices.

A ‘Sect is a subgroup of any religious, political or philosophical belief system.

These subgroups are usually an off shoot of any larger religious group. The ‘main stream thought’.

The break away subgroup follows a different set of rules, principals, beliefs and rituals. In many cases this term could be, can and is used in a malicious way suggesting that these break away groups hold ‘heretical’ beliefs or practices. These beliefs being considered deviant from the larger group that they broke away from

Perhaps one of the difficulties that many folks have with Christianity is the following ; The latest (30 years ago), GUESS-TA-MA-TION, globally there are around 20,000 Christian based sects since the official declaration of the Christian faith becoming the official religion of Rome 1,700 years ago.

All 20,000 Sects would/will and do claim that they are in the right and that everyone else is wrong. With some being far more vocal then others.

Did not some one, some where at some time declare; “ you are all the same”.
