Thank you so much for your measured comment and common sense, which seems to be lacking in the majority of these comments. I too am a mortal AB-, very much grounded in mundane reality.
Laurent is correct. Halloween's origins have nothing to do with the devil. It is a druid holiday called Samhain, pronounced sow-en. The druids beliefs were based in nature not the unnatural.
Thank you for sharing this information. It will be very useful to me when I prepare my own research paper powerpoint presentation. Pyramids is a real mystery of the world.
A site I subscribe to posted a list of free ebooks on mythology and folklore. Seems to span far more than just Greek, Roman and Norse. Got some Jewish folklore on there as well.
You correctly do not relate the new found shipwreck with the ship of Odysseus, as some articles do, because Oldysseus ship was about 800 years older. The wreck may look like the ship depicted on the "siren's vase" but that picture is of a ship of about the same time as the vase (5th century BC). Most probably Odysseus time war ships had no ram, carried only one rudder, and they were long enough to carry as many as 50 oarsmen.
I've checked out this site for 3 years, mostly enjoyed the articles but realized they weren't scholarly, literally anyone can write and post one apparently. This is the first time I've felt the need to comment. This is the stupidest article I've read in a long time, and would be funny if deluded evangelicals weren't such a huge factor in American politics and civic life. Having a person of one religion pretend to be one from another is insulting and in this case it is blatantly obvious. I hope he didn't get paid for it, and think anyone who gives this nonsense a platform should be ashamed
Of course they are fakes. The entire thesis of the "museum" is a fraud and the Greenes are thieves and smugglers of archeological treasures rightfully belonging other nations. Except for the.fact that the Green family as a whole, using their "Hobby Lobby" business as a front for their activities is able to "purchase" and smuggle material, their "museum" is not different from the grifter carnavaliae duping tourists everywhere. It is a terrible shame that materials, whether of religious significance or not, which have actually historical importance are in the hands of these incompetent and disreputable folk.
The belief that these features could be partially or even entirely man-made is ridiculous. Just look at photos of, say, Red Rock Canyon in California. You will see similar natural rock formations. That's just one example.
This entire article is insanity. The only thing that 'shocks' me is that this article was allowed to be posted on this site. (Not a christian myself). What utter garbage. As others have said, the only types to associate Halloween with 'devil worship' are hardcore, frothing at the mouth christians (which makes me suspect that this 'article' was also written by one. Who else capitalizes He when referring to Jesus and 'god'?). All Hallows Eve used to be a day to honour and remember those who had departed in the previous year, and before that, it was a day to celebrate the harvest. Dressing up in costumes and going 'mummering' to other people's houses for treats used to be done during christmas time. Somehow this got transferred to All Hallows Eve. So that would, by the author's twisted logic, make christmas also worshipping the devil. And I do belive that this practice started in the late middle ages, at the least? Hundreds of years anyway. And if I recall, dressing up is a way to HIDE yourself from 'evil', not 'invite it in'. If honouring the dead is 'devil worship', then pretty much every religion is also essentially 'devil worship.' Every church with an attached cemetery would then automatically be a place for 'devil worship'. Also, saying things like 'our wedding bells were heard all the way down to hell' shows the author's pathetic sense of self-importance and desperate attention seeking. On top of that, being a 'devil worshipper' doesn't make you a witch. It makes you a 'devil worshipper'. Insanity. Sheer insanity.
This article is utter balderdash. This ancient holiday(holy day) dedicated to the change of the seasons and the remembrance of ancestors has nothing whatever to do with the Christian concept of the Devil and precludes the modern perversion of the celebration by centuries.
I was about to say exactly the same. It is sad how the important celtic holiday celebrating coming of winter and "dying" of the Nature transformed under lenses of Christianity or capitalism.
Yes it is important day connected with dead and ancestors, for they come to the world of living and we can meet them. It is good time to meditate about our own mortality and remind ourselves that if there was not for our ancestors we would not be here. And that one day, we will become ancestors as well and pass the torch to following generation.
There is nothing evil or demonic about death. It is necessary part of the cycle.
The Newton stones seems to be related to astronomy. Some symbols are know in me iconography. Circles with a dot: Venus. Swastika (not what it means today, North, it is a reference to the Plough in cardinal directions (timeless). I wonder if the markings record the motions of a celstal bodies which should be reasonably easy to identify. This is an important artefact.
Halloween is no more evil then December 25th is good. Show me the passage in the bible that says either is true. A bunch of archaic wives tails don't equate to truth. IF you're scared of scary things maybe you should be rallying to have gargoyles removed from churches instead of making baseless claims about a holiday that's only demonic because your culture decided it should be so.
Shia don't believe "that Muhammad had an ancestor – Ali ibn Abi Talib" because A. Ali Ibn Abi Talib is his cousin, not ancestor.. And B. the Shia belief is that Ali Ibn Abi Talib is the rightful successor to the Prophet.

Just another case of pareidolia (simulacrum).

Nothing what so ever to do with the concept of a Christian devil
One of the better ones on AO
