While producing a documentary on the early opening up of Qatar, in 1978, I was aware that their heritage was quickly being destroyed for “modernization”.

This was in a time when the only public display of green grass was in a traffic circle with a small patch of “lawn”.

Just like Canada’s long gone old log cabins, Qatar was bulldozing their bygone gulf-side towns with their unique architecture styles and building materials for modern air-conditioned cement block homes.

They didn’t see why some of these buildings and towns should be conserved.

More buildings, more roads, more everything … but no more ancient heritage.

I’m surprised the rock art of Jebel Jassassiyeh is still there and not in some concrete block.

The ridges are so deep because of repeated use of vehicle with wooden wheels on the same track. This is a common pattern seen on muddy roads. A rubber tyre doesn't sink in this deep but a wooden one will if the road is soft.

Inside Tayos cave at the back left of the cave, a grouping of geometric designs consisting of a cross and downward slash on the vertical line are noticeable.

This is an unassuming but consistent pattern observed in comparable art rock panels throughout the globe.

Petroglyphs, being unpainted can be at first difficult to recognise. Geometric patterns may be incorrectly interpreted as just part of the rock’s appearance and dismissed as a human recording. (I have observed petroglyphs composed of a single line that at first appeared to be part of the natural rock until in-depth review revealed the line’s human origin).

Although not as visually stunning as petroglyphs displaying human, animal or supposedly shamanistic visions, this type of geometric ancient record keeping is scientifically important. It’s possible purpose can be discussed in another reply.

One method to validate a petroglyph’s human connection requires an observer to notice similarities found in previous historical rock art panels displaying resemblances of style/design. Upon a closer inspection with a magnifying glass (or compound microscope – better) to see any pecking marks or stone abrasions along the design pattern that would have been made during the design’s formation will help solve the puzzle.

If the rock art panel looks like others you have seen in the past, or pecking marks are noticeable, this is probably a human creation from the past.

No doubt the Tayos caves of Ecuador contain many more mysteries of ancient human occupation. Only further explorations into these caves will reveal its secrets.

Additional notes: From the image inside the cave with the geometric patterns, off to the upper right corner, appears to be additional petroglyph images – parallel curved lines, downward chevron just above the gray horizontal line on the rock and possible other formations on this panel. It’s hard to verify from the low resolution image.

From personal experience creating award winning documentaries about Human experiences, I know how challenging an expedition like this one can be. Best of success on your next exploration.

Seriously??? "At some point we mixed...." Really??? I would never breed with a...Monkey!

As for "Neanderthals," it has already been proven that modern-day "man" would also have an elongated head "IF" we were to live for hundreds of years. Which, the Neaderthal, obviously DID live.

As for the "mix" of DNA from different parts of the World? This will continue until "we" find more DNA from other parts of the World. Carbon Dating is the most inaccurate method of dating "anything" it's simply embarrassing that anyone would rely on it...PERIOD!

Please, stop believing what "our" scientists and "Institutes of Higher Learning" tell you as they are nothing more than the "Pharisees of Yesterday!"

You mean all the marble vase found in Egypt made in one piece who could only have been drilled by diamond drill set on CNC lathe? Or like each stone of the pyramids have been cut into different shape and yet each one has it place perfectly fit to resists almost any earthquake? The list goes on. In Peru some of gold jewelries could only been made by "fritage" (sintering in English). Of course for that you need to have knowledge of chemistry, the melting point of metals and how much pressure to give... and you have that knowledge right?

" Jason Colavito, a known skeptic and “debunker,” suggests that there is only a small degree of correlation between the script on the bowl and Proto-Sumerian characters. Colavito points out that the bowl has a highly problematic provenance, and may simply be a hoax."

Of course near by Lake Titicaca, in the 50's time the bowl was discovered and send to a museum where it remains hidden until present time, everyone spoke and wrote in proto-sumerian, knew all about cuneiform writing.
If you want to be a "debunker" start re-reading your own writing before publication because all I see is someone trying to make a name for himself without work.

If you take whole seconds to look up volcanic bombs, you can see instantly that this is NOT what they are. Fascinating things, themselves, but these disks are too symmetrical to be purely natural. Not to say they are alien at all, the fact is that ancient civilisations were far more advanced that people are conditioned to believe. Like the pyramids, as if people took 100 years to build a building... never has that ever happened in any civilisation. Doesn't mean they're alien, just that more advanced technology was used than people presume these people had 10,000 years ago.

Hi Guys! I've been reading all of the comments here and sad to think that by looking at the arguments, the only thing that can solve this could only be WAR, (I salute the veteran Generals now who are trying to talk this over and don't want to repeat the mistakes of the past who killed 200 million innocent civilians because of war) If CHINA will not honor the result filed by the Philippines against them this could end to violence and I wish we can end this peacefully for the future of our daughters and all of the children who wants to live peacefully.

I can see that the Chinese are all brainwashed by their culture and is now not thinking straight. They don't think if what they are doing is good or bad as long as they can get what they want. China is claiming all and that is not right! They are basing it using History. The Philippines gave evidence and proofs using international law and History that the Chinese 9 dash line is a bullshit, but what is CHINA's answer? NONE!! Common sense CHINA, you are too far from this islands and the reason why we have LAWS is to maintain peace and order! They are now acting like Nazi Germany, or very close to it now. China just want it all because of the rich resources it possesses, basically, that's it. You are selfish and greedy. The south China sea doesn't mean that it is owned by CHINA because it has the word CHINA on it. Does the INDIAN SEA owned by INDIA? NO! Because INDIA is following the international LAW which helps not to spread the Greediness and the CANCER to other countries to end the WORLD!

My minor is Anthropology. The copper axes, were likely more ornamental. Copper smelting was a fairly new technology in the Late Neolithic, but copper is a poor metal to cut with, as it was too soft; they most likely used stone hand axes. Gender roles in farming was nothing new. That had been in existence for 1,000 years with the Mesolithic hunter-gatherer cultures. Men typically "hunted", and the women "gathered" ; neither were figurines. The idea of a "tell" settlement is poorly understood, although evidence for them is found through the European Neolithic; There are cases of tell mounds being as high as 40 feet at some sites. The rest of the article is passably fair. You may find the following text useful. Sir Barry Cunliffe is considered one of the best European historians in print. "The death of a god poses an interesting deviant from the usual belief that gods are immortal and invincible".

The story of Balder deals with the global mythical term of "the dying and rising deity" - Do you own search.

As "a son of Odin and Frigg, residing in the heavenly Breidablik, Balder is of course also a figure in the sky. All figures in the sky seemingly revolves because of the Earth rotation, and different lower celestial figures (star constellations) appears and disappears in the horizon as the Earth orbits the Sun.

My guess is that Balder is connected to the Orion constellation and its annual motion. Going under (dying) and invisible in summer and rising in the winter season.

If so, I´m fairly sure that Odin represents the Milky Way contours on the northern hemisphere and Frigg represents the Milky Way on the southern hemisphere, the "Underworld". - http://native-science.net/MilkyWay.Mythology.Keys.htm

That is in generally: Myths of the primeval deities really tells a concrete astronomical story (also a concrete story of creation) and the Norse “Ragnarok” underpins the cyclical celestial motions as such.

The article says that they were subsumed into the Christian religion as an illustration of the Holy Spirit – makes more sense to say they became what we know as ‘angels’, apart from the fact that angels are considered to be sexless, even though they have a definite feminine cast to their features.
