A treasure trove of 5 gold foil pieces, the size of fingernails, have been found near the roadside in southeast Norway, dated to 1,400 years ago. Described as not getting “more spectacular than this”, they are flat and thin, mostly square, and stamped with motifs. Linked to the Merovingian period in Norway, which starts around 550 and goes into the Viking Age, a time of turbulent climate and power relations.

Two thousand winding spirals of golden metal threads have been discovered by archaeologists in a field in southwestern Zealand, Denmark.
The glittering masses of golden metal threads spun into spirals are thought to date to between 900 and 700 BC, and may have been used on ceremonial robes of sun-worshiping priests in the Bronze Age.

An erdstall is a type of tunnel that is found throughout Europe, mainly in the south-eastern German state of Bavaria and Austria. Erdstalls are thought to have been created during the Middle Ages, though some have claimed that these tunnels date to the Stone Age. In the heart of Yorkshire in northern England, near the town of Aldborough, lie three huge pillars of stone known as the Devil's Arrows. Originally four, these are the tallest collection of standing stones found in the whole of the United Kingdom.
But what remains of the stones is also all that is known about them. What their purpose was, where they came from, and who placed them, remain a mystery, and it is not even certain that there were only four originally.

Decades of excavations in ancient burial pits in the Iberian Peninsula (modern-day Spain and Portugal) have unearthed more than 4,000 palm-sized slate owl plaques engraved with geometric images of owls. It has long been believed that these 5,000-year-old objects were created for religious or ceremonial rituals, presumably by an owl-worshipping culture.
