Dan Snow Critiques the Best Historical Films of All Time (Video)
Historian Dan Snow was recently ask to review the greatest historical movies of all time, as voted by the public. While acknowledging their entertainment value, Snow highlighted the historical inaccuracies in these films. Gladiator, a gripping epic, was praised by Snow but criticized for its departure from historical truth. Commodus did not kill his father, Marcus Aurelius. The portrayal of the Praetorian Guard as an elite bodyguard was also misleading.
Snow felt The Last of the Mohicans portrayed the challenges faced by the British in North America during the French and Indian War well by highlighting the British forces' shortcomings and their struggles in unfamiliar terrain. It’s good to know that some of the public favorite historical films are also pretty accurate!
