Joan of Arc Was Far from The Saint She's Portrayed As (Video)
The well-known Joan of Arc, often referred to as la Pucelle, stands as a complex historical figure, far from the conventional depiction of a holy maiden. She emerged as an iconic female warrior, her story shrouded in twists and turns. Predictions of her arrival circulated, echoing through prophecies of a maiden clad in armor saving France from its English foes. Her affinity for armor and a twist of fate led her on an unexpected journey. While historians speculate about her identity and connections, Joan's path intertwined with the powerful Duchess Yolande of Aragon, who may have manipulated her story for political gain.
Joan's conviction to lead and her unique moniker, la Pucelle, highlight her purity and determination. However, she wasn't without flaws; her interactions with unsavory characters and judgments against marginalized groups reveal a less saintly side. Despite these complexities, Joan's enigmatic journey, whether driven by faith, magic, or something else entirely, etched her place in history, burning as a lasting beacon.

The linked video is so bad that most of the comments on Youtube pointed out how juvenile it is; and it’s filled with daffy nonsense which historians have debunked repeatedly. The idea that she suffered from schizophrenia or epilepsy has been debunked by modern doctors and historians such as Dr. Jean Nores, Dr. Antoine Yakovleff, Dr. John Hughes, Dr. Philip Mackowiak, etc. Gilles de Rais didn’t begin his crimes until after her death, and the 15th century sources never mention the two of them doing anything together despite the attempts by some modern authors to invent a connection between the two. The “Yolande of Aragon Conspiracy Theory” is just plain silly. And so on for other claims in the video. The title is pure clickbait since even the nonsense in the video doesn’t justify the title’s claim about her. By linking to something like this, Ancient Origins has pretty much lost any credibility that it had.
The narration was similar to what one might expect from a senior high school video project. Can we have the adult version some time, please?
