Scientists Say A Mystery Species Bred with Ancient Humans in Distant Past

A new study of the genomes of Australasians has revealed sections of DNA that do not match any known hominin species. The dramatic findings mean that a mystery species bred with ancient humans in the distant past and that our family tree is much more complex than previously believed.

New Scientist reports that the unknown species bred with early human ancestors when they migrated from Africa to Australasia.

The surprising finding, published in the journal Nature Genetics, was made by Jaume Bertranpetit at Pompeu Fabra University in Spain and his colleagues, who examined the genomes of living Indigenous Australians, Papuans, people from the Andaman Islands near India, and from mainland India.  The results revealed sections of DNA that did not match any previously identified hominin species.

“These DNA sequences are not present in the genomes of living Europeans or east Asians,” reports New Scientist, “suggesting that the ancestors of these people met and bred with a mystery hominin in south Asia or the Pacific region, who left their genetic legacy in the area’s present-day populations.”

One theory is that the mystery species was Homo erectus, which was present in Asia between about 1.8 million and 33,000 years ago. However, there is no DNA from Homo erectus with which to compare to the samples from current Australasian populations.

Alan Cooper of the University of Adelaide, Australia, has raised the possibility that multiple unknown hominin species may have contributed to the unidentifiable DNA segments. “Asia is a bit of a nightmare in terms of the number of different groups that were running around at the same time,” said Cooper [via New Scientist].

The results echo previous findings from 2013 in which the genome of one of our ancient ancestors, the Denisovans, was found to contain a segment of DNA that came from another species currently unknown to science.

Scientists launched into a flurry of discussion and debate upon hearing the study results and immediately began speculating about what this unknown species could be.  Some suggested that a group may have branched off to Asia from the Homo heidelbernensis, who resided in Africa about half a million years ago. They are believed to be the ancestors of Europe's Neanderthals.  However, others, such as Chris Stringer, a paleoanthropologist at the London Natural History Museum, admitted that they “don’t have the faintest idea” what the mystery species could be.

Both sets of findings indicate that our family tree is far more complex than previously believed and likely involved the interbreeding between multiple hominin species, many of which we may never find traces of.

Actually I think it was 1840 something that Satan/Lucifer was denied any more traveling access to the heavens...(visiting the council, etc). He lost his title to the Earth, though he still possesses it to a degree, with Christ's sacrifice.
Time wise, what folks don't understand, mainly because the two are cramed into one in the book of Genesis as if Moses didn't have the complete story, is that there were two creations, one happened before the rebellion, where all the angels rejoiced ...and those that the Sumerians say were miners....the second being the Adam and Eve we are more familiar with, and where the rebellion had taken place and the Serpent dwelled in the Garden of Eden as well ... Apparently that particular being was the one the Sumerians called Enki, whos symbol is that of the serpent and the two entwined serpents that represent the DNA strand. Apparently the modification that Enki offered them interfeared with some of their original DNA. Note, the order of creation is different with the two genesis stories though the writer attempted to combine them. In the second, domestic animals are created AFTER Adam and Eve and brought to them.

Some of the DNA damaged first creation undoubtedly survived, and hence, Cain went off to the land of Nod to take a wife. So there were other settled or semi settled lands in existence at the same time of Adam and Eve's first offspring becoming adults.

"Some of the DNA damaged first creation undoubtedly survived, and hence, Cain went off to the land of Nod to take a wife. So there were other settled or semi settled lands in existence at the same time of Adam and Eve's first offspring becoming adults."

I have seen a similar concept proposed before. YHVH is portrayed as talking to other gods throughout Genesis, so it has been suggested that YHVH was trying His hand at creating His own people (He was originally a war god, not a creation god after all) and the original sin was actually body modesty - so only those born with an unnatural sense of embarrassment when seen naked are descendants of adam and Eve, the rest of us are descended from a superior creation.

Even if we are, who are we? Of whom or what do we exist, or do we? If there is a God, He may be the only one capable of truly knowing of His own existence, if He does. Maybe shouldn't be presumptuous, here, unless we are, of course. Claiming to know what may be unknowable, for all we know, seems like it may be an exercise in futility, though I seem reluctant to be sure of that, like what seems to seem like about everything else.
I am convinced of the possibility of the manifestations of which you seem to speak, but also of the possibility that everything may be cherished accomplishments of righteousness within the mind and perhaps body(if so we represent) of what we seem to shorthand as "God" under however many pen or pseudonyms, the entire concept being unkenable or specious regarding our capacity, in and of ourselves, to be able to pronounce any reasonably accurate opinion, other than to say, maybe perfect.
Things may only be able to be precisely as they are, otherwise, seemingly obviously perfect things would probably be impossible, and yet, Who's to know for sure, if They do. Up to Them, I would seem to think likely. Might not want to know, but if They do, it seems as if I would be in support of whatever is necessary in the continuance of existence, eternally, should it be deemed desirable by Whomever might have something important to say about such a choice, should there be any.
Whatever seems required in this pursuit might be perfect.
If not, perhaps the best any of us could do would be to apologize, but that might be counterproductive, other than as a balm to our "selves," while entering into denial of Whom we may really be, regardless of whom we seem to think we are, or seem to believe we are.
Gratitude seems to be in the forecast, perhaps inevitably!

Homo-Erectus Beget Cro-Magnon Americanus...Cro-Magnon Americanus beget the Southern lineages...

We need to remember that Homo-Erectus was more than likely a Seafaring and more intelligent group than we give them credit for. And they were way before Cro-magnon Man. They truly did not Grunt at each other. Based on Native American Sign Language they may have had a system that produced the proverbial "Rosetta Stone" in Sign language and Symbolism.

Even now...try to win a Baseball Game without this...

Myths & Legends

Open Book Photo
A legend is a tale regarded as historical even though it has not been proven, and the term “myth” can refer to common yet false ideas. Many myths and legends describe our history, but they are often treated skeptically. This is because many of them, while explaining a phenomenon, involve divine or supernatural beings.

Human Origins

Noah's Sacrifice - watercolor circa 1896–1902 by James Tissot
The imperfect state of archaeological researches in the Near East impedes any definite identification of the original race or races that created the earliest civilizations of Mesopotamia and Egypt. According to Gordon Childe, however, the predominant racial element in the earliest graves in the region from Elam to the Danube is the ‘Mediterranean’.

The ancient and mysterious Sphinx, Giza, Egypt.
In 1995, NBC televised a prime-time documentary hosted by actor Charlton Heston and directed by Bill Cote, called Mystery of the Sphinx. The program centered on the research and writings of John Anthony West, a (non-academic) Egyptologist, who, along with Dr. Robert Schoch, a professor of Geology at Boston University, made an astounding discovery on the Great Sphinx of Giza in Egypt.

Our Mission

At Ancient Origins, we believe that one of the most important fields of knowledge we can pursue as human beings is our beginnings. And while some people may seem content with the story as it stands, our view is that there exists countless mysteries, scientific anomalies and surprising artifacts that have yet to be discovered and explained.

The goal of Ancient Origins is to highlight recent archaeological discoveries, peer-reviewed academic research and evidence, as well as offering alternative viewpoints and explanations of science, archaeology, mythology, religion and history around the globe.

We’re the only Pop Archaeology site combining scientific research with out-of-the-box perspectives.

By bringing together top experts and authors, this archaeology website explores lost civilizations, examines sacred writings, tours ancient places, investigates ancient discoveries and questions mysterious happenings. Our open community is dedicated to digging into the origins of our species on planet earth, and question wherever the discoveries might take us. We seek to retell the story of our beginnings.
