    Mr. St. Clair,

Please read the opening paragraph again, carefully. It doesn’t state a factual case. It says that “everyone knows” something that the rest of the article goes on to suggest is wrong. It’s called irony, and I understand that in these days of speed reading and sound bites, irony is frequently lost on people. The truth is that, as the article goes on to point out, Mayan scholarship is currently in a great state of flux, and altough it has been the traditional standard that Olmec is parent to Maya, that is simply no longer accepted by all modern acadmics.

Indian students boast about hiring 'lower caste' girls to service them one after the other at their dormitories. (Male friends who have traveled through India have told me about this.) No doubt this kind of stuff has ben going on for decennia. I have read about certain rural parts where the 'lower caste' men simply flee when the 'higher caste' men arrive to rape their womenfolk: Generations of abuse have taught them that resisting will only get them killed.

    So.

That interesting 2013 DNA research: Did it distinguish between dna transmitted from father to child and dna transmitted from mother to child when it claimed intermingling stopped about 2000 years ago? Yeah, I bet you there will be close to zero evidence of high caste women mating with lower caste men, but the other way around...
If Brahmin status were based on male parentage DNA, I guess a lot of untouchables could move to the highest caste.

Scientists would do well to take Old Wives’ Tales seriously. If they have been passed down the ages they have been tried and tested, which why they have survived for generations. It’s scientific really.

I recall for example that when I was young, fish was said to be good for the brain, but this was dismissed as an Old Wives’ Tale. We now discover that the Old Wives were quite right.

I personally believe that the Ashkenazi jew story is a propaganda to demonize the true Jews and keep Palestine as Palestine as part of the Ancient Otterman Empire Agenda to say that Palestine will always belong to the Muslim Palestina/philistine this book of the ashkenazi story is a fabricated story to keep the hate war going to get rid of the Jews and israelite. Time that this ashkenazi Jewish story get to be put to an end. And end the war.

"They inherited many of these traits from a culture called Olmec, frequently called the ’Mother Culture’ of Mesoamerica, because they gave birth to what became the Mayans, the Aztecs and the Toltecs. The Mayans flourished between 300 to 950 AD and were followed by the Aztecs,"

How can I take anything this article says seriously when the opening paragraph is so factually wrong. The Olmec's were as far as we know the parent civilization of the Maya but not of the Aztec nor the Toltecs. Both their cultures were hundreds of miles away from the Olmec/Mayan region and thousands of years separate them in time. Also the Aztec's own creation myth has them coming from outside the region that became their center around what is Mexico city. In fact their creation myth has them coming from the north. The Olmecs and later Mayans were far to the south. Also the Mayans were not replaced by the Aztec.

I found this story fascinating. Wondering who the child's parents would have been. Were all children privy to education? Or, just upper class? I'm very much a novice and new to Ancient Origins... and trying to put 1800 years ago in perspective. Thank you for the article.

ORACLES and the ANCIENT GREEK COLONISATION.

The foundation myths of the Greek colonies around the Mediterranean and Black sea (especially in modern-day S. Italy, Crimea, Marseille), reflect the important role of the major panhellenic sanctuaries in the colonization process.
The founding of a colony presupposed knowledge of topography and the resources of the regions earmarked to receive the colonists.
The sanctuaries, to which bypassing seafarers and merchants came as pilgrims, were centers where such information was collected and exchanged.

Oracles on the founding of colonies are known to have been delivered by the sanctuaries of Dodone, Zeus-Ammon in Libya and of Apollo at Delphi, which undoubtedly held precedence.
These oracles were a guarantee of the safe outcome of the operation and boosted the colonists' moral.
The "oikistes" (ΟΙΚΙΣΤΗΣ=leader of the "advance party" of colonists) [-such a person's name was ITALOS according to Aristotle, Thucydides and Dionysios Alikarnasevs] was a person of high social status who undertook to implement whatever the god prophesied, establishing not only the political institutions but also the cults of the colony.
Many of the oracles pertaining to colonies were ambivalent, that is, in the form of a riddle which the "oikistes" had to encode and solve.
This is explained by the awareness of the many dangers the colonists would have to confront.

Concurrently the sanctuaries too reaped significant benefits from the colonies' founding.
Their influence extended beyond the narrow local bounds and the cults were spread to new regions.
For the sanctuary of Delphi in particular, its active participation in the colonies' founding established it in the people's mindset as "cosmos" center.
On the other hand, luxurious ex-votos from the extended Greek world were set up in the Panhellenic sanctuaries of the motherland (metropolis), such as of Delphi and Olympia...The Greek colonization (the second one) of South Italy and Sicily starting in the 8th c. BC. is a phenomenon that sets its seal on the region's history, having a catalytic effect on the entire Western world.
