    Hi John,
This is because the Pyramids are a great deal older than has been believed.
The only 'evidence' that points to this time period is a misspelled cartouche at the very top of the 'Kings Chamber' in the Great Pyramid. This cartouche is the misspelled name of Kuufu and is believed by many to be a forgery as the knowledge of Hieroglyphs at the time was limited and mistakes like the one here were common.

The high water mark on the GP is exactly the evidence needed to point to an earlier construction date. This water mark is also present in the enclosure of the Sphinx and shows a tremendous amount of water erosion that also points to this time period (10-12K years ago) as the date it occurred.

There is no evidence whatsoever that the Pyramids or the Sphinx are just 4K years old. This is purely speculative on the part of archaeologists since they cannot fathom that man could have been so advanced so long ago. To them I say.... Gobekli Tepi

clearly, much more effective protections need to be put in place to keep humans from damaging it even one bit further. the wall and rail obviously arent doing enough. the sad fact is, wherever we go, people cause destruction of nature, and nature only recovers once the humans are completely kept out. chernobyl proves it. the wildlife refuge around Rocky Mountain Arsenal proves it. add your favorite example, here. perhaps this tree is fruiting and seeding now because it knows its countdown clock to dying has been set off. thats what progeny are for: making sure your kind of life doesnt disappear with you. btw, during the last US govt. shutdown, idiots cut down ancient tree in joshua tree national monument because rangers werent there to stop them. there are ancient trees venerated all over the planet that need to be kept from idiots like these. the frankincense trees in arabia. the cork trees in spain. go find out the rest of the list. "stupid humans..." the planet would be better off without us!!!

I like peanut butter and honey, sometimes with raisins added in.  Makes great sandwiches.  Also, peanut butter can go on just about anything – hotdogs with peanut butter are great (learned about that at camp as a kid). About the only thing I wouldn’t put peanut butter on is a good thick steak!  Great article, keep up the great work.

What is the oldest tree alive today?
    Methuselah
Until 2013, Methuselah, an ancient bristlecone pine was the oldest known non-clonal organism on Earth. While Methuselah still stands as of 2016 at the ripe old age of 4,848 in the White Mountains of California, in Inyo National Forest, another bristlecone pine in the area was discovered to be over 5,000 years old.

"ignorant of other people beliefs and condescending to boot"

Good. Rude and destructive people deserve condescension. The more insult, they better.

It's only a shame that no poison darts could be involved.

Unfortunately for the prevailing theory of the " Fertile Crescent " the oldest human civilization is of
" Old Europe" around the Danube river and further down south among both coastlines of the Aegean
Sea dating back to 6.500 BC.

Ashley, you are far more diplomatic than me. I appreciate your candor and note to the public stating your opinions of historical landmark degradation. And it is far more than most people ..... well 99 percent of the people on the web will go in condemnation. I appreciate you and thank you.

    But......

Imo ..... these people are taking away something that should and could be appreciated by how many people?- 100-1000000 after it dies ??? I don’t have a real tolerance for such selfish people. To those that think it’s insane for a person to go to jail for helping kill a tree I don’t think they see the real picture. My picture is that the very selfish shortsighted people in our societies that only think of impressing their neighbors rather than generations should be removed from society. Selfishness is the crime at this level.

    Great article.

And then, Native Americans supposedly were able to communicate fairly complex messages by smoke signals, I’ve no idea of the time frame though. Or, maybe that’s just in the movies, havent seen any real evidence.

Prior to this article, I had believed that a certain bristlecone pine in U.S. was oldest in the world, but it obviously does not compare with this one. The damage done and selfishness of souvenir hunters never ceases to confound me. It’s a blatant lack of respect that seems to be endemic in our present culture, reflected in several articles posted today

Pardon my ignorance, but my understanding is that the pyramids are about 4,000 years old, but the story places the flooding at 10 to 12 thousand years ago - how could the pyramids have a 'high water mark' if it happened prior to their being built...?

it has already surpassed sweden in some places! sweden was never so bad until the advent of eu authority and dominion. if any government proclaims some people to be a minority and those minorities get special financial or other consideration then all aspects of the culture are easily abused. if enough of the different social groups are proclaimed a minority and entitled to special consideration then the original majority group becomes the true minority....in other words they drag you down into the hole they are in!
