China’s Extraordinary Wuling Mountain Temples (Video)
Nestled in China's biodiverse Wuling mountain range is the majestic Fenjingshan, the highest peak in Guizhou province, towering about 8,000 feet above sea level. Believed to have formed between 2 million and 65 million years ago, its most renowned feature is the Red Cloud Golden Summit, atop which sit two spectacular temples linked by a heart-stoppingly narrow bridge.
For centuries, Fenjingshan has been a sacred site, attracting pilgrims and Buddhist worshipers from across the globe. It gained international recognition in 2012 when it was named the 13th UNESCO Natural Heritage Site in China, thus securing China's position as the country with the most natural heritage sites in the world.
