Andrei Romanov is an economist, independent historian, and author based in the Algarve, Portugal, the very region where many of the pioneering voyages of the Age of Discovery were launched. With over 15 years of international experience in trade strategy, European affairs, and geopolitical advisory, he brings a unique economic and strategic perspective to the study of maritime history and early globalization. He is the author of the highly acclaimed narrative history, Masters of the Ocean Sea: The Epic Saga of the Portuguese Explorers Who Redrew the Map of the World (Sagres Heritage Press, 2025). His work is grounded in extensive primary research and fieldwork conducted across Portuguese archives, museums, and historical sites, including Sagres, Lagos, and Belém. Fluent in English, Portuguese, and Romanian, Andrei bridges the gap between local and international historiography, reconstructing the economic, geopolitical, and strategic dimensions of the 15th and 16th-century Portuguese Age of Discovery. When he is not researching medieval and early modern trade networks, Andrei applies the discipline and rigor from his background as a former champion athlete to his historical investigations. He is available for expert commentary, interviews, and documentary consulting.
