Willem Boshoff

Prof Willem Boshoff acquired his doctorate degree in Old Testament from the University of Pretoria in 1994 and he has been a Professor at UNISA in the Department of Biblical and Ancient Studies since 1987. His fields of specialization are: the history of Israelite religion, archaeology of the Biblical world, historical archaeology, Old Testament prophetic literature, ecological readings of Biblical texts, birds in ancient contexts – Bible and ancient Near East. He has contributed to numerous scientific journals and book chapters and is the editor of Journal for Semitics. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the UNISA Chancellor’s Prize for Research 2003. He is involved in the following projects: Old Testament Prophets in historical context; the Maleoskop Archaeological project and the Doornbult Concentration Camp Archaeological project. He is a member of the South African Association for Professional Archaeologists.
