In the Campania region of Italy near the modern day city of Naples, there was once a prosperous Roman city - Pompeii. As a thriving center for trade, the inhabitants of the city were a mixture of the elite and slaves. No matter what their social class was, they all led fascinating and sometimes scandalous lives. The residents of Pompeii left behind a number of detailed written accounts covering everything from trading and population to politics and day-to-day life.
