Unknown bacteria found in Lake Vostok, Antarctica

Print

Lake Vostok in Antarctica is the largest known sub glacial lake. This is where a hole has been drilled down the incredible distance of 4 km from the surface and created a lot of fuss on the Internet a few months ago. The lake is reported to be about 250 km long, 50 km wide and 800 km deep.

Russian scientists reported that they have found a type of bacteria different from currently known types in samples of the water collected - the DNA does not match anything known to science.

It is believed by the scientists that Vostok Lake has been isolated for millions of years and thus it will provide us with valuable information about the conditions and even life on earth during that era.

Who knows what else is going to be discovered or what is already discovered and is not public yet!
