Panspermia Theory

New Study Provides Further Evidence for Panspermia Theory

A new study conducted by a team of Geneticists at the National Institute on Ageing in Florida has suggested that life started about 10 billion years ago, long before Earth.  The implications are that life originated outside our solar system, providing further proof for Panspermia Theory.

According to Panspermia theory, simple life forms originated outside Earth and were transported here on a meteoroid or asteroid from another solar system. Research supporting the theory has shown that certain life forms can survive the extreme conditions of space. The theory maintains that when the simple life forms collide with a planet with habitable conditions, they become active and the process of evolution begins.

The latest study conducted by the Institute on Ageing utilized Moore’s Law, which can calculate the rate of exponential growth in complexity, and applied it to living organisms. The theory was that it is possible to measure the complexity of life and the rate at which that complexity increases, for example, from bacteria to worms, fish and finally to mammals.

Based on the calculations, the Geneticists have suggested that life could not have started as early as 4.5 billion years ago when Earth began, but began as far back as 10 billion years ago.  The researchers admit that much of their work is theoretical but it certainly raises the possibility that our current understanding of the development of life on Earth is false.
