Have you always been fascinated by Ancient Egypt?
Are the Pyramids on your bucket list?
How about the Valley of the Kings?

Join us on an all-inclusive (excl flights) tour from Jan 05-12 and live that Egyptian dream. An adventure week in Luxor, Egypt exploring the Valley of the Kings, including the Tomb of Tutankhamun, the Temple of Hatshepsut, Karnak and much much more. Plus, an additional extra day to see the Pyramids and the Sphinx, as well as a chance to see close up the Golden Mask of Tutankhamun.

Join author and Egyptological researcher Ted Loukes, and his business partner, fellow author and Egypt enthusiast, Gavin Athienedes, on a voyage of discovery to the ancient city of Thebes, one-time capital of the land of the Pharaohs, and the extraordinary burial grounds of Ancient Egypt’s New Kingdom. Pooling their knowledge, resources and personal experiences, Gavin and Ted will lead you on a fascinating exploration back in time, following in the footsteps of the great pioneer Egyptologists who opened up the sprawling necropolis of Ancient Thebes. With an itinerary that takes in the finest tombs and temples, we will walk the paths of not just kings and queens from the distant past, but also those of the nobility of the age, the men and women who held the reins of officialdom in the name of the Pharaoh, and the oft-forgotten workmen who laboured under extreme conditions to bring these massive undertakings to life.

The Tombs and Temples Tour is designed to visit as many of the more interesting tombs and temples in the Luxor area, many of which are not on the general tourist itineraries. This means spending most of our time on the West Bank, and to this end we will base our accommodation here. This is a budget adventure tour and will entail a degree of walking, steps and stairs, maybe some crawling, climbing in and out of minibus transport, and hopping on and off boats. That said there are plenty of rest stops and we will always stop for lunch. As the Tombs and Temples Tour is not a standard tourist excursion there are some differences, and these are what make this tour unique.

Firstly, we set our own times, so, although there is an extensive itinerary, we are always in control of how long or how short we are in any given place. Our secure transport is flexible and arrives when we want it, which means we never have to rush through any of the many sites we plan on visiting. If necessary, we can change the itinerary as we wish.

Secondly, we are staying in one place for 7 nights, as all we want to see is within a few miles of our base, and to this end we have selected one of the West Bank hotels as close to the Nile as possible. This allows us to travel across the West Bank easily and quickly, but we are also only a short boat ride from the East Bank. We will utilise the Luxor Pass which allows into all tombs and temples in the Luxor area. This means, for example, that in the Valley of the Kings we will enter 10 or 11 tombs, as opposed to the standard tourist visit of 3.

Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, with all the tourist trips the guides are not allowed into the tombs with you, whereas we are able to accompany you, explaining what is going on, who is who, and what god is what. An ability to read some of the hieroglyphic texts is just an added bonus.

The tour is scheduled to start on Saturday January 5 th with everyone meeting at our hotel. Because of different arrival times/flight schedules we have set the rest of this day aside as time to meet each other, discuss what we will get up to over the next few days, and also sort out any outstanding admin, for example getting the Luxor Pass. The tour proper will start on the Sunday morning. This is day 1.

Day 1: Luxor Museum, Mummification Museum, Luxor Temple

Day 2: Valley of the Queens, Worker’s Village at Deir el-Medina, Tombs at Qurnet Marais, Mortuary Temple of Ramses III – Medinet Habu and the Colossi of Memnon

Day 3: Tombs of the Nobles at Qurna, The Ramesseum and Temple of Merenptah

Day 4: Valley of the Kings, including the tomb of Tutankhamun, Howard Carter’s House, Western Valley

Day 5: Mortuary Temple of Seti I, Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, Tombs of the Nobles at Dra Ab el-Naga, Khokha and Asasif

Day 6: Karnak, Precinct of Mut

Day 7: Pyramids at Giza, Cairo Museum

There will be a river sunset cruise and also some souvenir shopping time while we are in Luxor.

If we achieve all of this we will take in some 40 tombs and temples within a week.

Day 7 is the 12 th of January and we will leave Luxor early to fly to Cairo. Because of differing flight schedules leaving Cairo this day is made up of several options: Either leave Luxor later that morning and connect at Cairo International with your outbound flight, in which case you get a reduction in price. Leave Luxor with everyone else and only do half of the Cairo day, although that might be difficult with Cairo traffic. The airport is to the north-east and we will be in the south-west. The third option is to do the Cairo day, overnight near the airport and fly out the next day. This extra night’s accommodation is not currently included in the price.

The tour price of £843,00 / $1 099,00 / € 955,00 includes:
