Bagrationi dynasty

The Bagrationi (sometimes Hellenized as Bagratid) dynasty was the ruling dynasty of Georgia for over a millennium. This dynasty was founded during the Middle Ages and ruled the country until the early part of the 19th century, when its last king was overthrown by the Russians. Nevertheless, this was not the end of the Georgian royal house, as its members became prominent aristocrats in the Russian Empire. This continued until the early 20th century, when the empire collapsed in 1917 and was replaced by the Soviet Union in 1922.
