I think a lot of women became nuns and men became monks not because they were devout but because it provided food and a roof in very hard times. If you weren't particularly religious you'd be less inclined to see the pleasures of the flesh as quite so sinful, especially when other pleasures were so few.

Not being an archaeologist by trade anything I said can only be my personal opinion. I visited couple of Merovingian necropolis located with a stone throw from where I live monumentally in France and one thing I've noticed was the absence of Christian symbols. Most of the one found were added later. Although few Black Madonnas were found inside the graves which could very well representation of Isis (Iset or Aset in Egyptian). The Goddess religion was prevalent in the times of the Merovingian but to avoid the fate accorded to heretics many Merovingian were hiding their beliefs. Although it is surprising to find two bodies in one grave, nothing is further from the truth to call one of them Christian. After all Chilperic II place a statue of Isis in one of the Parisian church, which was destroy by an archbishop in the XVII century.

  • Reply to: Startling Similarity between Hindu Flood Legend of Manu and the Biblical Account of Noah   8 years 7 months ago

While the stories are similar, I do not think the situation they are talking about or trying to convey is the same. I know this will sound confusing, but please bear with me. The specific narrative of the flood in this account is the same granted. BUT if you read the details and events both before and after this story of destruction, you will find that it doesn't fit into the world chronology. Where it does fit is with the stories of an earlier destruction and parallels time wise with the destruction of the dark/half dark world (before) and the formation of the new world and the dawning of the Golden Age. It is my feeling that this storyline was put on top of another story which has been lost in Hindu Cosmology.

I´m not sure, but maybe there are some socalled Rock Art round cupmarks on the first image? In this case it could show an ancient star map of stars and other celestial images? (I´m not able to reckognize any star constellations from the actual image angle)

These stones look more like mill stones. Long time ago I have seen 2 oxen tied to a yoke which in turn would be tethered to a mill stone in a round stone walled groove. The oxen would be walking around in a circle with the round stone being pulled along in the stone walled groove where lime stone mortar would be made into a fine paste and used in construction. In another case similar method was used to extract oil from oil seeds. Over a period of time I believe the stone would wear down to the present look it has got. The oxen were blind folded to avoid them getting dizzy while walking around in a circle continuously !!! I think these stones did similar work in antiquity. Also look at the location where they were found, The first picture with the crane shows an old mined surface, and the second picture says coal mine area. I think the gentlemen researchers should be looking for where the end product was used to understand why these stones have the almost perfect round shape. Its just my opinion. Every one is welcome to comment on it.

Again the Gilgamesh epic is simply a regurgitation of vedic and pre vedic stories. Surprisingly, none of the so called "real researchers" want to research the true timeline for the pre vedic era. Everything is about Egypt or Sumer.

Completely useless article to confuse everyone. Fighting sheeps and even more ridiculous is fighting constellations! Gilgamesh story has no sense or interest. It's a good to know fact that such a person existed and could walk on two feet. Besides that it's just a source of ancient history or maybe not since there have been better historians like Herodotus.

  • Reply to: The Spanish Inquisition: The Truth Behind the Black Legend (Part II)   8 years 7 months ago
    Comment Author: Geob

I think it's very obvious that the Spanish Inquisition’s first and foremost use was to persecute people who weren't Spanish enough, rather than Christian. The situation was even more complicated when looked at from that much more political standpoint. The labels of catholic, moor, or jew have much more significance to an absolute “catholic” monarch from that perspective, and give him a much stronger reason to allow the suppression of difference  than appeasing an Italian with a big hat. The Catholic Church was a powerful force, yes indeed, but it very rarely superseded the intentions of the ruler in any country. Politics always wins over religion when you look close enough.

  • Reply to: Petroglyphs Left in Canada by Scandinavians 3,000 Years Ago?   8 years 7 months ago
    Comment Author: rock-art-revealed

These petroglyphs are images carved into rock with stone tools, not drawn.

First assumption is a depiction of a “boat”. Is that because it looks like a boat or did the original artist leave detail notes about their artwork?

The supposed images of similar “boats” have been recorded throughout the world in rock art and tribal motifs over many thousands of years, some even before the creation of the first known boats from Africa.

Second theory is the image is in a style similarly found in Scandinavia a few thousand years ago. Yes I agree the images are similar in style but I don’t believe the images are representative of boats.

An additional similar boat style is to be seen in an ancient Azerbaijan petroglyph reportedly from 12,000 – 8,000 BC (Beyukdash Mountain, Gobustan, Azerbaijan).

Does this then infer the Scandinavians got their idea for boat building from this distant culture?

Beyukdash Mountain, Gobustan, Azerbaijan (12,000 – 8,000 BC)

How is it that rock glyphs throughout the world exhibit many similarities in form although separated from one another by culture, continents and time?

I respect the opinions of sages like Dr. Schoch, but again, these are not images of boats, whether in Scandinavia or the exquisite Kinomaagewaabkonging  (Teaching Rocks /Petroglyphs) in Canada.
